After its various controversies including war of words with the censor board, “Udta Punjab” opened to mixed reviews and response from viewers on 17th June. Here are the early estimates of its 3rd business day i.e Sunday and its opening weekend on Indian screens.
On Friday ‘Udta Punjab’ opened to amazing reviews from critics but then also did not able to bag much attention from viewers. The film minted Rs 10.5 crores on its first business day making it 5th highest opener of 2016.
Have a look at this year “Highest” opening films: Fan – ₹ 19.20 cr, Housefull 3 – ₹ 15.21 cr, Airlift – ₹ 12.35 cr, Baaghi – ₹ 11.94 cr and Udta Punjab – ₹ 10.05 cr. Though its opening numbers are quite good but the way movie created hype among movie buffs, we were expecting it to break all the opening records of box-office.
The response from single-screen cinema halls are proving to be major setback for the film. As revealed by trade analyst Taran Adarsh ‘Udta Punjab’ showed a growth of 11.94 % in its business on 2nd day i.e Saturday and collected Rs 11.25 cr.
The film has minted Rs 21.30 cr in just two days of its releasing. Whats more surprising is that the film is bagging more eyeballs from Punjab which shows the people are ready to face the reality.
‘Udta Punjab’ starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles was high on the minds of the audiences but the numbers are not that encouraging. It needs to show strong growth on Sunday to post Rs 40+ crore opening weekend number.
If the movie gonna show a minimum growth of 10-15% on Sunday then it will post Rs 13-14 cr number thats means business of Rs 34-35 cr on its opening weekend.
It is going super strong in multiplexes of metro cities. The major chunk of its earning are coming from Delhi and East Punjab. The leaked version of the film must defintely has halted its further growth.
#UdtaPunjab Fri 10.05 cr, Sat 11.25 cr. Total: ₹ 21.30 cr. India biz… All set for ₹ 34 cr [+/-] opng weekend… Biz on weekdays crucial.
